Someone's watching, (scene 4)

Still, in the dark. A figure through my window. Head spiralling, thoughts working overtime. Soft footsteps not too far away. Get real Reilly, but I don't move or can't what's the difference again? The pizza I demolished with mum gurgles in my stomach. I burp pepperoni, thinking of that really creepy movie me and Tara watched ages ago with Keanu Reeves stalking that lady. My phone chimes and I soil myself. A number I don't know and an empty message appears on the screen. I suck all the air out of the room turning too quickly towards the door and bashing my knee trying to get it open. I run down the hallway.

'Mum.'

'What's wrong?' She says.

'Someone's outside.'

'Who?'

'I don't know, will you come check.' Mum tuts but heads towards my room. I follow, freaking out. She keeps the light off, walking over to my window.

'I don't see anyone.'

'Out there,' I say pointing. Something soft and cold brushes up against my leg, I scream and pinch her arm.

'For goodness sake Reilly! You need to stop watching those vile scary movies.' I shrug.

'It really looked like there was a figure out there then I got this blank text and freaked.'

'Damien again?'

'I don't know the number.'

'I think you should switch your phone off for the night. I'll set an alarm for school tomorrow okay, get some rest.' She holds me tight then leaves. I brush my teeth and get into my pyjamas. I don't switch my phone off, what if the figure watching breaks in? I'd need it to call for help. I don't close my eyes for ages, making up scary shadows in the corners of my room to match the speculative sounds outside and inside of our house. I wonder what I'd actually do if I woke up and someone was in my room? Would I scream? Would I fight them off? Would I just lay there still and scared unable to move like I was right now? I only hoped I'd never find out.
